Sharks & Seaweed

You will need:

A group of young people up for running around

A wide area to run around in with two designated 'safe zones' at each end. You can mark these out if you wish.

How it works:

Everyone stands at one end of the designated area, in the safe zone. Someone is chosen to be the 'shark' for the game - they are going to be the catcher and will catch people by tapping them like you would in a game of 'it'. The 'shark' stands in the middle of the area, half way between the safe zones, facing the others.

On the shout of 'go' everyone runs from one side/safe zone to the other side/safe zone. The 'shark' has to try and catch as many people as possible, but once they are in the safe zone then they can't be caught. However everyone must leave the safe zone and run to the other one each time 'go' is shouted.

Once someone is caught they must freeze where they are and they become 'seaweed'. Once someone is seaweed, they stand still and wave their arms around as if they were seaweed deep under the sea.

As more and more people are caught and become seaweed it becomes harder and harder for the others to run across from safe zone to safe zone and for the shark to catch them - this all adds to the fun!

The winner is the person who is the last one left after everyone else has become seaweed.
